SMSTOEARTH examines how environments are constructed through measurement, mapping, and recording, and how other ways of inhabiting emerge alongside regimes of monitoring. Working internationally across terrains, basins, and coastlines, the studio treats territory as an active site of inquiry.

Fieldwork, cartography, audio, and new media situate each site simultaneously in new spatial imaginaries and in the acute environmental conditions that shape its communities. We ask, what other ways of knowing, inhabiting, and measuring territory are possible? What tools, methods, representations, and technologies are necessary to do so?
